Heard it Through the Grapevine

Harvesting the grapes

A #DYK fact about grapevines from this October 5th article from ‘France Today’ – “Did you know that Paris used to be covered with grapevines? Now the sole surviving city vineyard is in Montmartre.” It’s a Monday morning thought as we embrace this season of harvest and fall.

There was a design thought on expansion and contraction of your outdoor spaces brewing for this Monday post but it was deemed a bit too complex, much like the art of a fine grape. So it’s a simple #DYK factoid about grapevines. Enjoy the fall and all it offers including festivals, a bountiful harvest and turning leaves. And we can't forget sunrise at the Lake.

Where Creativity is...

A Design thought on this Thursday

In his book, Creativity Inc., Overcoming The Unseen Forces That Stand In The Way Of True Inspiration, Ed Catmull, President of Pixar Animation and Disney Animation defines it best about where creativity is. “When it comes to creative inspiration, job titles and hierarchy are meaningless.” As Catmull points out, "Everybody has the potential to be creative - whatever form that creativity takes - and that to encourage such development is a noble thing." What will you be creating today?

#GoodMorning October

On this #WordlessWednesday, it’s the last of the Sunflowers in the garden. It adds a bit of sunshine to this much needed rainy October 1^st day. And if you live in or are visiting Massachusetts, here’s a #DYK factoid about the month of October. Take a peek at something more than leaf peeping and apple picking – although those are still some of our favorite fall activities. The Secretary of State’s office has designated October as Massachusetts Archaeology Month. Click here for the list of activities. Sounds like a great rainy day fallback. I'm sure there are a few history buffs amongst the garden and design lovers that frequent here.

As L.M. Montgomery once quipped, "I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers." And if you live in Massachusetts, there's leaf peeping, apple picking, and archaeology to supplement those days when you need a garden break.
