Stunning In the Rain

Stunning in the Rain - Peonies
Rainy days can make us feel a bit complacent. Often we'd rather stay inside than face a morning that's not so pretty out there. But how can you beat the beauty the rain adds to our trees, shrubs and plants? It’s a simple message about attitude and how choice can make all the difference. What we learn from our gardens, well, these living things remind us to embrace the rain, even if we aren't fully awake and open completely to the day ahead.

Jon Acuff states this keen observation about attitude in his book, ‘Do Over.’ "Choose your attitude every day until eventually it chooses you right back. It’s not about feeling happy or feeling committed to your work or feeling like a good employee. Feelings are the flightiest things in the world, held to the whimsy of a thousand factors. Feelings will tell you the day is already ruined because you woke up on the wrong side of the bed or had a bad commute that morning. Don’t listen to feelings. Make choices. Today, choose a good attitude.”

The most important lines in that statement – ‘Don’t listen to feelings. Make choices.’ It’s a stunning lesson and we can learn it straight from our own garden in the rain. And if you don’t have Peonies in the garden, what are you waiting for? Make choices; Peonies are a great one to make.

P.S. I’ve been all a twitter about Peonies. There’s plenty displayed recently on our social media pages, past, present and in the future because Peonies have longevity. Just like a good attitude. "Don't listen to feelings. Make choices."
