The Fire of Summer

According to a recent 2015 Outdoor Design Trends article, 'Fire pits and fireplaces rank as the 4th most popular in overall outdoor living trends, but rank number one in terms of most popular design elements."
Landscape design by Bilowz Associates Inc. - an example of one of our outdoor fireplaces
Landscape design by Bilowz Associates Inc. - one of our coastal projects with a gas fire pit built within the terrace.

But because it's #ThrowbackThursday, here's a post from last fall, Whimsical Details. The reason it's worthy of another peek? It delves into more than those trendy fire pits and fireplaces but an often overlooked detail that brings this number one design element all together. So click on the link and find out what that is.

But speaking of fires, if you want fiery colors planted in your summer garden, here are two choices.
Hermocallis 'Moses Fire' - Add this Daylily to your garden and get some colorful heat. Its deep orange/red flower is hard to capture in photographs but trust me, its name 'Moses Fire' is for a reason.
This new addition for our own garden - Floribunda Rose Rosa 'Gingersnap' has that same fiery color you'll see in your fireplace or fire pit. There's always the Floribunda 'Hot Cocoa'. That's another Rose favorite. It's always important to tie in your design elements - plants included.
And if you missed yesterday's post, Garden Backdrops, check it out for some additional fiery planting examples -worth taking another peek. The Red Castor Bean and Crocosmia 'Lucifer' is fiery indeed. And be on the lookout for an upcoming Design New England article featuring one of Bilowz Associates' landscape designs with a fire pit detail. This collaborative project has all of the above elements - including that one often overlooked and mentioned in the #throwbackThursday post, Whimsical Details.
