Late Summer Bouquet |
What’s
blooming in your garden that makes a last-minute summer bouquet? Here’s one for
a Ball canning jar – it’s a combination of a few of my favorite things: Sunflowers, Asters, Lavender and Russian Sage.
You could add in something additional but if you’re looking for that
last-minute bouquet to brighten someone’s day, what better choices can you find than bright
Sunflowers with splashes of purple to anchor the vase?

Asters, Lavender, Sunflowers, Russian Sage |
Sunflowers
are so easy to grow. You can dry and save your seeds each year. Often times, you’ll get
volunteers the following growing season by cutting them back and allowing them to naturally seed
themselves. Asters, Lavender and Russian Sage are staple perennials so this is a good add to your borders come spring.
But even if you only have some annual purple Petunias, those can add a bright purple
punch as well. I love this color combination plus those empty Ball jars are waiting for canning night
with the deluge of recent tomatoes so one or two of the canning jars won't be missed for your favorite late summer bouquet.
When everything is turning Mums and pumpkins, it’s nice to share the last of the late
summer blossoms in your garden.
As Victor
Hugo pointed out in ‘Les Misérables’, “A garden to walk in and immensity to
dream in – what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the
stars.” And don’t forget a late summer bouquet for someone who needs a smile.
